Alistair Crawley and Jonathan Preece of Crawley MacKewn Brush LLP acted as co-counsel for Peter Aceto, the former CEO of CannTrust Holdings Inc., in a quasi-criminal prosecution commenced by the OSC in relation to alleged securities offences. The OSC concluded that it had no reasonable prospect of conviction against Mr. Aceto, leading the Ontario Court of Justice to acquit Mr. Aceto on all charges. The case was the first of its type in Canada where quasi-criminal charges had been brought for alleged disclosure breaches by a public company.
Prior to the OSC prosecution, CMB represented Mr. Aceto in his claim for wrongful dismissal against CannTrust Holdings Inc., in defence of class action proceedings, and in related CCAA proceedings.
